The Getdown's Pick - Cd bundle is a curated selection of some of our favorite albums by our friends and collaborators. This 9 Cd bundle includes everything listed below.  Some great artists from Westbound Records, Color Red Music as well as a few rare independent releases.

Funkadelic - Funkadelic

Released in 1970, Funkadelic’s self-titled debut was a radical collision of psychedelic rock, gospel, blues, and soul. The record arrived as a chaotic, genre-defying statement that redefined the possibilities of music. Where Motown aimed for polish and crossover appeal, Funkadelic dove headfirst into distortion, improvisation, and spiritual ambiguity, offering a sound as gritty and unpredictable as the era itself. Backed by a ferocious young band — including Eddie Hazel, Billy Bass Nelson, Tawl Ross, Tiki Fulwood, and Mickey Atkins — the album rejected convention in favor of raw groove and existential noise.

The Soular System - All The Way Out & All The Way In

All the Way Out & All the Way In is a transcendent, energetic, and contemplative innovation of sounds in the world of futuristic soul music that collides with raw funk, space-age concepts, and gospel inspiration. Bearing no sophomoric misfortunes, The Soular System has struck pay dirt with this ten-track songbook of eclectic musical styles and conceptual lyrical treatises, evoking the beauty, madness, and scatological hilarity so often found in the band's massive set list. The awe-inspiring unity of this band is what initially draws in its listeners. The tight-knit group exemplifies an interdependent spirit of collective oneness wholeheartedly, with all the members depending on each other's important ingredients.  All the Way Out & All the Way In is a monster of an album, introducing the world to a band that has been a marvel in the Southeast for almost a decade.

Mike Watt - Hyphenated Man

Twenty-six years after The Minutemen's landmark Double Nickels on the Dime, Watt returns to the familiar punk and jazz influenced sound he and his band made famous. This time, it's more refined and more mature without lacking any of the energy or urgency of yesteryear. Hyphenated-Man features thirty songs in 47 minutes with Watt on bass, his deep baritone singing melodies and reciting spoken word while the Missingmen (Raul Morales and Tom Watson) wail on drums and guitar.

Dennis Coffey - Finger Pickin Good

Guitar virtuoso Dennis Coffey’s first LP for Westbound Records was released in 1975, and is a tour de force in funky guitar wizardry unlike anything else. While Coffey’s technical fireworks remain the centerpiece of the record, some of the rawer psychedelic elements of his earlier work are replaced by a slicker, more produced sound. This new style clearly lays the groundwork for Coffey’s transition, as the 70's progress, into a more commercial, disco-oriented sound on his own recordings, as well as on his writing and production work for other artists such as CJ and Co. This long overdue reissue, retitled Finger Pickin Good, was remastered by Dave Gardner and includes the previously unissued bonus track “What It Is It Ain’t”.

The Big Ol' Nasty Getdown - Volume 2

Funk just got deeper, dirtier, and way more unpredictable and Volume 2 is where we really cut loose.

We’ve always been about bringing together funk legends, soul powerhouses, and jam-scene firebrands into one ever-evolving musical family, and on Volume 2 we take that idea further than ever before.

Where Volume 1 introduced the magic, Volume 2 doubles down. Over 60 musicians stepped into these sessions, including members of Parliament-Funkadelic, Earth, Wind & Fire, Fishbone, Bootsy’s Rubber Band, Living Colour, James Brown Band, Kool & the Gang, the Meters and more. These weren’t drive-by or phoned in features, everyone came to build, experiment, and leave their fingerprints on the music.

From fat bass lines and blazing horn breaks to heavy guitars, psych-soaked keys, and conscious, fearless lyrics, Volume 2 pushes funk into a perpetual deep groove. Every track stands on its own, but together they tell a bigger story. One about freedom, collaboration, and the raw joy of making music with no rules.

Floki Sessions - Boots In Place

George Porter Jr. (The Meters), Eddie Roberts (The New Mastersounds), Robert Water (Greyboy Allstars), and Nikki Glaspie (The Nth Power) team up as some of the most revered contemporaries in the modern funk scene on the latest installment of ‘Floki Sessions: Boots in Place.’ The series hosts musicians at Floki Studios, located in the Fljót Valley on the mountainous Troll Peninsula in northern Iceland to create a platform for renowned musical artists around the world to share the inspiration, soul, and energy of Iceland. Here, artists can explore their passion on the edge of the arctic circle in a relaxed environment, surrounded by the striking natural beauty of the Icelandic coastline and state-of-the-art recording equipment. Produced by Eddie Roberts of The New Mastersounds, ‘Floki Sessions: Boots in Place,’ presents a broad range of vintage funk & soul inspired sounds explored through 10 brand new tracks featuring special guests that include Son Little, Big Chief Donal Harrison, Erica Falls (formerly Galactic) Lamar Williams Jr. (Trouble No More, The New Mastersounds & North Mississippi All-Stars), Tierinii Jackson (Southern Avenue), Eric “Benny” Bloom (Lettuce) and rising Chicago artist GreenTTea.

Marcus Rezak’s ‘Truth in Sound,’ a virtuosic guitar-driven excursion through the realms of rock, progressive, jam, and groove-oriented music featuring Russ Lawton, Ray Paczkowski, and the late Tony Markelis of Trey Anastasio Band along with Kalyan Pathak on tabla and percussion. Rezak approached 'Truth in Sound' with a songwriter and story-telling mindset. While the album displays the same fierce jams and guitar shredding that his debut 'Gateway to the Galaxy' emitted into the universe, Rezak's focus on 'Truth in Sound' is showcasing heartfelt lyrics and musical healing to mirror his experiences since his initial release. During the challenges of COVID, he felt compelled to uplift and fill in where depression and confusion had become a part of so many people's everyday lives. In those initial lockdown months, renegade-style drive-up concerts were some of the only ways to keep music present for both musicians and music lovers alike. He saw a new purpose as he observed his music keep those isolated in good company and helping release some endorphins. "The final outcome of this record truly encapsulates a time in my life through a sound that I hope brings healing, joy, and excitement to those with open ears," says Rezak of the new EP.
